About Fidra

Fusing folk and traditional music with a modern intensity, Fidra are recognised as one of the most exciting emerging acts on the Scottish folk scene. Described as “one of the finest Scottish folk albums of the year”, Fidra’s The Running Wave was nominated for the Scottish Album of the Year Award in 2025.

Bringing together musicians from across Scotland any beyond, they are known for their harmonious blend of distinctly Scottish folk music, combining traditional sounds with an indie-infused edge. Fidra’s music blends fiddle, guitar, and close vocal harmonies with subtle modern textures, creating an evocative sound that’s both timeless and current.

Led by Craig Salter (Man of the Minch, Foxgang), the band includes Kim Grant (Raveloe, Flinch); Pedro Cameron (Valtos, Man of the Minch, Adam Ross, Broken Chanter); Gill Higgins (Curlew, Broken Chanter, CLR Theory, Elizabeth Elektra); Madeleine Stewart (Swinging on Birches, Eriska, Routes Quartet) and Fraser Hughes (Withered Hand, Meursault).

Since forming in 2023, Fidra have become known for their dynamic live performances and heartfelt storytelling, capturing audiences with a mix of driving instrumental sets, original songs, and reimagined traditional material. Their sound sits comfortably alongside the new wave of contemporary Scottish folk artists pushing the genre forward, while remaining rooted in tradition.

Their outstanding storytelling offers a unique and personal perspective – sonically and lyrically – on life in Scotland.
